Obi’s latest ride-hail data suggests that in San Francisco, Waymo’s robotaxi service is becoming more competitive on both price and pickup times, narrowing the gap with Uber and Lyft and hinting at progress toward cheaper, more widely available autonomous rides.
Compared with Obi’s spring 2025 snapshot—when Waymo trips were priced roughly 30–40% above Uber and Lyft—by November and December 2025 Waymo was about 13% more expensive than Uber and 27% more than Lyft, with stronger competitiveness outside rush hours and smaller per-kilometer gaps on longer trips.
Tesla stands apart: its Bay Area ride-hail service uses fewer than 200 vehicles over a large area and is not fully autonomous, leading to much longer waits (around 15 minutes on average) but markedly lower fares (about $7.50–$8), a pricing strategy aimed at building familiarity with the Tesla Robotaxi app ahead of a future true robotaxi rollout.
