Large tech companies' massive investments in AI infrastructure are exacerbating shortages in chip supply and construction labor. For instance, major memory maker Micron pulled out of the consumer market to prioritize data centers, while giants like Meta and Google have started building training academies to address the lack of skilled tradespeople needed to construct and maintain data centers.

As college degrees devalue, the traditional stigma surrounding blue-collar skilled trades is fading, with some college graduates even turning to trade apprenticeships. US official projections show that demand growth for electricians will far outpace that for lawyers, while wind turbine technicians and solar panel installers have become the two fastest-growing occupations in the US.

Against the backdrop of a tight labor market, workers' bargaining power has increased, prompting semiconductor giants like Samsung and TSMC to boost employee bonuses. With its exceptionally deep pockets and prestige, the tech industry's competition for skilled workers is poised to leave other traditional industries facing labor shortages.
