Muscat, normally a secondary airport used mainly by tourists, became a major evacuation node after the Gulf conflict escalated. Governments including the UK, Germany and Italy are dispatching rescue missions, while carriers such as Qatar Airways are operating links to London, Berlin and Amsterdam from Muscat. Private-jet activity rose sharply: in the past week, private jet movements were up tenfold, even though the airport usually handles only 1–2 business jets a day. Flightradar24 data show more than 90 private aircraft departed from Muscat since hostilities began, indicating a sudden concentration of demand.

LunaJets handled more than 800 evacuation requests from individuals and governments in 24 hours, with an around-the-clock team after the first attack. The broker arranged two group flights from Muscat to Istanbul and Athens, almost 200 passengers each, with seat prices up to USD 2,100. David Reuter said almost all inquiries were last-minute charters with very limited availability. Santosh Sharma said private-jet rental demand in the Middle East had doubled, and both BookMyJet and LunaJets had roughly doubled prices. Most travelers were stranded in Dubai or Abu Dhabi after canceled transfers or while on vacation, plus Gulf-based expatriates heading home; many are staying in hotels and even a major conference center holding carry-on baggage.

The airport still operates about 80% of scheduled flights, with only airspace-closed routes suspended. Travelers are coordinating through WhatsApp and Reddit groups, often spending hours by road to reach Muscat and then paying hundreds to thousands of dollars for onward transport, especially private charter segments. Dan Caine said the U.S. military, including C-17 aircraft, opened evacuation seats; over 17,500 Americans have returned since Feb. 28. Germany flew 250 passengers from Muscat to Frankfurt via Lufthansa, and Italy has evacuated about 2,750 citizens through Oman and Saudi routes. Ireland arranged a charter for vulnerable residents, and Gulf routing pressure continues, as shown by a UK charter from Muscat delayed by technical issues from Wednesday to Thursday.
