Anthropic, best known for the Claude chatbot, has become one of the most coveted employers in tech. Head count is a little above 3,000, with about 1,000 additions since November, and its recruiting and HR team has doubled since last summer. Many jobs advertise compensation above $250,000, while key roles can reach as high as $850,000, underscoring the company’s rapid expansion and intense hiring push.

Its hiring process is unusually mission-focused and rigorous: candidates may face as many as five rounds of interviews and skills assessments, are generally barred from using AI in interviews, and must sign an NDA before advancing. A culture interview probes values, worldview, and seriousness about AI risk, as well as the ability to discuss controversial issues respectfully. Former recruiters and candidates say this round often feels more like therapy than an interview, and a low score can mean rejection. (Key numbers: 5)

The financial trajectory is equally striking. Anthropic expects annual revenue to top $50 billion by the end of next month, up from about $9 billion at the end of last year, while also discussing a new $30 billion raise at a valuation above $900 billion. That would make it the world’s most valuable AI startup. A reported 80% two-year retention rate leads peers, and engineers are eight times more likely to move from OpenAI to Anthropic, and nearly 11 times more likely from DeepMind.
