He also says companies looking to replace developers with AI may be making a big mistake.

Google said Gemini 3.5 Flash offers frontier coding and reasoning capabilities through a tool called Antigravity, while being faster and cheaper than competitors. Gemini 3.5 Pro, a more powerful new version of Google’s flagship model, will debut next month. Google also demoed Spark, an agentic assistant in Google’s Cloud with access to its apps, and an updated Android version with an AI agent built in, plus a refreshed Google Search that can generate a site or app on the fly.

AI coding has become a crucial and lucrative application, and a 2025 Stack Overflow survey says Anthropic and OpenAI lead developer adoption with Claude and Codex. Hassabis says AI could one day rewrite its own code in a self-improvement loop, but he doubts that would immediately lead to superhuman-level AI. He also says AI has not yet produced a blockbuster app or video game without human help.
