LinkerBot, founded in 2023, is a Chinese startup led by Zhou Yong that focuses on dexterous robotic hands rather than full humanoid bodies. Its hands have five fingers and at least 11 joints, cost as little as $600, and may fall to $200 within three to five years. Zhou says the long-term aim is for households to own many robots, with an average of 10 robots per person.
The company claims it shipped 10,000 robotic hands last year, equal to 80 percent of global demand. It has raised six funding rounds in 13 months from backers including the Chinese government, Ant Group, and HongShan Capital, and is now seeking money at a $6 billion valuation, double its earlier figure. Bloomberg also reported it may pursue a Hong Kong IPO.
Zhou argues that humanoid robots will arrive in three stages: entertainment and greeting, then limited tasks like cooking and package sorting, and finally complex home deployment. LinkerBot is targeting advanced manufacturing and even uses its own hands on assembly lines. Zhou believes automation will help solve labor shortages and eventually make robots 100 times more capable than humans, though inequality would still remain.
