European and Chinese automakers are currently overly focused on competition within their domestic markets, yet China's domestic auto sales growth has gradually slowed. Faced with weak domestic consumption and changing demographics, Chinese electric vehicle companies are actively exporting their products worldwide, while European automakers have been far too slow to react in this regard.

The greatest potential for future growth in the global auto market comes not from developed countries, but from emerging markets such as India, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. These regions possess massive and growing middle classes, leading major automakers to fiercely compete for the brand loyalty of these billions of potential drivers.

Although European automakers have strong legacy brands in these emerging markets, they must change their current protectionist mindset and leverage their industrial bases in China. Only by transforming their Chinese factories into export hubs and combining European design expertise with low-cost manufacturing advantages can they stand out in the future electric vehicle competition.
