On Jan. 8, 2026 (3:00 AM GMT+8), OpenAI announced ChatGPT Health, a new ChatGPT feature aimed at helping users interpret medical test results, prepare for doctor visits, and get guidance on diets and workout routines, while stopping short of formal diagnoses. The feature can connect to electronic medical records, wearable devices, and wellness apps such as Apple Health and MyFitnessPal. OpenAI will start with a waitlist and plans broader access in the coming weeks.

The launch is framed as OpenAI’s biggest push into healthcare so far and fits a broader trend: tech companies are targeting the lucrative health market, betting AI can detect patterns in personal health data and generate more individualized recommendations. At the same time, expanding AI into higher-stakes health use cases intensifies concerns about privacy and safety when sensitive data is processed and suggestions may influence medical decisions.

OpenAI said more than 200 million people already ask ChatGPT health and wellness questions each week, indicating demand at a hundreds-of-millions scale. It also reported consulting more than 260 physicians over two years to refine health capabilities, and plans to wall off health conversations from other parts of the app with enhanced privacy features. The company stressed the tool is meant to supplement, not replace, doctors, citing clinicians’ limited time and bandwidth as a gap AI can help address.
