Google's top privacy and security executives have warned that the European Union's proposed rules under the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which demand Google to open up its search data and Android operating system to competitors, could expose user search queries to hacking and trigger a significant rise in cybercrime and fraud across Europe.

Regarding search data, the EU plans to require Google to share search, click, and ranking data with rivals on par with what it collects. However, Google safety experts argue that the proposed anonymization techniques have critical weaknesses and can be easily re-identified, putting millions of users' private search queries at risk of cyberattacks.

As for the Android operating system, the proposals could force Google to grant third-party AI services deeper access to application permissions such as microphones, cameras, and screen content. Google's security team fears that giving competitors such broad access will undermine established mobile security practices and make it easier for scammers to exploit users.
