Agility Robotics has unveiled its latest humanoid robot, the Digit 5, engineered to work safely in close proximity to human workers without requiring physical safety barriers. Unlike its predecessor, the Digit 4, which was restricted to stacking plastic bins behind barriers, the Digit 5 is capable of handling complex operational tasks such as loading materials onto equipment, sorting parts, and inspecting items.
To ensure collaborative safety, the Digit 5 leverages artificial intelligence algorithms and advanced sensors to detect nearby humans, triggering real-time collision avoidance measures like stopping or sitting, alongside visual and auditory alerts. The upgraded hardware features a redesigned leg system that boosts carrying capacity to 50 pounds, a battery providing 90 minutes of operation with a 9-minute fast charge, and swappable end-effectors.
In terms of business expansion, Agility has accumulated over 65,000 operational hours across nine customer facilities and secured approximately $300 million in multiyear orders. Valued at $2.5 billion, the company plans to go public this year through a merger with the SPAC Churchill Capital Corp XI, with strategic plans to expand deployments into the European market early next year.
