A new study reveals that parents' attachment to screens and smartphones can have negative, long-lasting developmental and psychological effects on children, particularly by exacerbating "insecure attachment" due to device mismanagement.

Published in Frontiers in Psychology, the study surveyed 600 U.S. minors and found that children often feel marginalized or neglected by parents glued to screens, a phenomenon of "technoference" where parents are physically present but mentally absent.

While digital addiction among youth has long been a focus, the impact of phone-distracted parents on parent-child dynamics has received less attention, even as tech giants like Meta and TikTok face thousands of lawsuits alleging adolescent harm.
