CIA Director John Ratcliffe stated on Wednesday that Russian soldiers survive an average of only 20 to 30 minutes on the battlefield due to Ukraine's AI-powered attack drones. Speaking at the Pennsylvania Defense and Innovation Summit, he confirmed that US intelligence assessments align with open-source reports about the drastically short life expectancy of newly arriving Russian recruits in Ukraine.

Ratcliffe attributed the high casualty rate to AI-driven drones that have evolved into specialized, low-cost killing machines. Although Russia holds a significant manpower advantage over Ukraine, Kyiv has managed to curb Moscow's territorial advances through innovative deployment of various attack drones. US officials estimate that Russia is losing approximately 7,000 soldiers per week.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has claimed that over 80% of enemy targets are being destroyed by drones. Ratcliffe's remarks came as Washington and its allies deliberate on new funding for Ukraine's drone programs and seek access to the AI-guided technology, underscoring the increasingly pivotal role of artificial intelligence in modern warfare.
