Germany's Zeiss Group has expressed strong confidence in its ability to meet the surging demand in the semiconductor industry driven by the AI boom, pushing back against investor concerns about potential supply chain bottlenecks. To address capacity needs, the company's semiconductor unit has expanded its Oberkochen headquarters and is building a new factory at another site to optimize space and scale up production.

Zeiss is a critical supplier for the Dutch semiconductor equipment manufacturer ASML, providing ultra-smooth mirrors essential for extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines that print fine patterns onto silicon wafers. Through this deep partnership, Zeiss components have been involved in producing around 80% of the world's chips, helping its semiconductor division achieve a record revenue of €5.06 billion in the last fiscal year.

Despite expecting significant growth fueled by investments from hyperscalers, Zeiss and ASML face potential risks stemming from geopolitical tensions between the US and China. As the US continues to tighten export controls and proposes further restrictions on deep ultraviolet (DUV) equipment, these measures could impact ASML's business and subsequently affect Zeiss, which manufactures lenses for these tools.
