Apple is moving toward brain-based interfaces too: it filed a 2023 patent for EEG-sensing AirPods and, earlier in 2025, announced an accessibility feature enabling Vision Pro control via brain waves rather than physical movement, allowing integration with brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). Startup Cognixion is already building a Vision Pro AR app and custom headband, initially targeting communication restoration for people with paralysis-related speech impairments, with clear consumer spillovers like gaming or hands-free texting.
Medical-grade wearables are also emerging. Flow Neuroscience’s tDCS headset plus app-based therapy won US FDA approval in December 2025 as the first at-home, non-drug treatment for major depressive disorder; it’s also approved in the UK/Europe/Australia. In a 174-person trial, remission at 10 weeks was 45% with Flow vs 22% with a sham device. Flow expects US availability in spring 2026, amid growing privacy concerns over highly personal brainwave data.
