Unlike Tim, Ternus is described as an engineering-oriented, politically savvy product executive; he already reorganized hardware this month around a new AI platform and has been leading development of AI-focused wearables and home devices such as new AirPods, smart glasses, a camera pendant, a facial-recognition display, a tabletop robot, and a security camera. In a memo he said he would not move far from the hardware teams and would stay hands-on. Cook said this was the right time to transition and said details would follow in a Tuesday all-hands meeting.
