This year, yellow gold rises to 42.5%, white gold falls to 22.5%, and platinum is 31.7%, meaning yellow gold is up 29.1 percentage points (more than tripled), white gold is down 19.7 points, and platinum is down 5.6 points.

Gold prices also reinforce the preference: gold hit a record $4,380 an ounce on October 20 and is now around $4,200. Industry price comparisons also invert—platinum used to be double the price of gold and is now nearly a third—while celebrity exposure and rising demand for a vintage look lift related searches and purchases.
