Ike Tech, a partnership of Ispire Technology and Chemular, says it can satisfy the FDA’s March 2026 draft guideline that flavored e-cigarettes in the U.S. should pass age verification on the device itself. The U.S. market is currently flooded with cheap disposable vapes from overseas, and insufficiently regulated products raise risks from contaminants such as nickel and lead. Its design scans ID and a face video, converts identity into anonymized tokens through blockchain-linked logic, and unlocks a cartridge via Bluetooth; the one-time check is said to take about 1.5 minutes (about 90 seconds).

Michael Wang says this could block minors and revive approval pathways for flavored devices, while major firms including Juul, British American Tobacco, and Altria have pursued age-gating for years. Stanton Glantz of UCSF’s tobacco-control center argues age checks have long failed in practice and notes this model still permits risk: a verified adult can share the vape with nearby users without re-checking. He also criticizes Bluetooth-dependent control because any technical fix usually has a workaround.

Ike Tech claims a 100 percent verification success rate and says FDA staff reportedly called it the “holy grail.” Time to market and per-cartridge cost remain unclear, though Wang expects clearer approval signals and licensing activity in 2026. He plans future updates like geo-fencing near schools or airplanes and expansion to fingerprint readers and other product categories. Wang still describes e-cigarettes as a relatively safer nicotine route, but Glantz rejects that, saying nicotine is not harmless and ultrafine particles from vapor plus controlled dosing (“smoking topography”) increase addiction and cardiovascular and nervous-system risks; therefore even perfect age verification does not solve the core health problem.
