NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection(DCWP)报告指称,DoorDash 与 Uber 在调整 App 介面后,让纽约外送员损失超过 5.50 亿美元(US$550 million)小费。

A NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) report says DoorDash and Uber deprived New York delivery workers of more than $550 million in tips after changing in-app interfaces. The city says that after new pay standards took effect in December 2023, the companies raised service fees to subsidize pay and made tipping less prominent, moving tipping to after checkout to make upfront delivery costs appear lower. Published time: 2026-01-15 02:14 UTC+8 (original: 02:14 AM GMT+8).

DCWP’s quantified shift: average tips on both platforms fell within a week from $3.66 to $0.93 per delivery, down $2.73, about a 74.6% drop. Over 18 months, the report estimates a $554 million loss in tip income, roughly $5,800 per worker per year.

DoorDash disputes the report, says workers always receive 100% of in-app tips, and argues post-checkout tipping is common; Uber did not immediately comment. Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who took office earlier this month (January 2026), issued an order targeting junk fees and misleading subscriptions and named both companies; the push builds on labor changes under former mayor Eric Adams. A new city tipping mandate requiring more prominent options, including tipping at checkout and a selectable 10% suggestion, is scheduled to take effect on 2026-01-26; the companies jointly sued, alleging First Amendment violations.
