Nvidia-backed AI cloud computing firm Nscale Ltd. is in advanced negotiations to sell computing power to Anthropic PBC in a deal potentially worth around $45 billion. This agreement involves a second facility at Nscale's Monarch data center campus in West Virginia, which will utilize Nvidia's advanced Vera Rubin chips to deliver 460 megawatts of computing power, with Anthropic also holding the right of first refusal for the campus's expected third building.

As a premier client for data center providers, Anthropic—valued at $965 billion ahead of its own planned IPO—is aggressively securing computing capacity and already holds up to $44.6 billion in existing infrastructure agreements with Nscale at the West Virginia site after Microsoft Corp. walked away. Beyond Nscale, Anthropic has signed massive computing pacts including $50 billion with Fluidstack Ltd., $10 billion with Volta Infrastructure Holdings Ltd., and $45 billion with SpaceX.

Despite strong customer demand, Nscale faces significant execution and financing hurdles ahead of its US IPO, including a six-month construction delay at its flagship Norway facility and the need to secure chip financing for both Anthropic contracts. Growing investor skepticism over heavy borrowing in the AI data center sector has prompted calls for Nscale to lower its $30 billion valuation target to between $16 billion and $19 billion—a market caution underscored by rival Elice Inc.'s 32% debut plunge in Korea—even after Nscale raised $3.36 billion in a pre-IPO round led by Third Point.
