Google has introduced a new selfie video sign-in feature as an additional option for account recovery. When a user loses their device and cannot access their passkey, this feature acts like a spare key to help them regain access to their Google account.

The setup process for this feature is very simple and takes less than five minutes in the Security and sign-in settings. The system requires standard lighting with only the user's face in the frame, and it uses tools like liveness detection to prevent deepfake attacks.

This sign-in option is an opt-in feature and must be set up before the account gets locked out. During setup, users can also freely decide whether to allow Google to use their selfie video data to train facial recognition models.
