Although there are widespread concerns about students over-relying on artificial intelligence and losing their independent thinking skills, some educators find that many students actually fear "cognitive offloading" and are reluctant to use technology. However, research simultaneously indicates that excessive reliance on AI can come at the cost of critical thinking and independent judgment, creating polarized phenomena and concerns within the education sector regarding its application.

To address these challenges, schools currently maintain traditional closed-book exams to test students' genuine comprehension, yet a growing number of educators believe integrating AI with appropriate safeguards is essential. By delegating lower-order tasks to AI, students can engage in "beneficial offloading," thereby focusing more energy on evaluating evidence, structuring arguments, and synthesizing information for deep learning and higher-order thinking.

Another major potential of AI in education lies in providing highly personalized learning experiences, such as guiding student thought through Socratic dialogue or utilizing digital avatars to assist with language learning. Experts emphasize that in the face of rapid technological advancement, the education sector must re-examine and unpick old teaching and assessment processes, pinpointing the core skills that truly matter to build students' critical thinking and sophisticated learning capabilities.
