Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is in good spirits ahead of talks with US President Donald Trump and other NATO leaders at their summit in Ankara, Turkey. Recent Ukrainian missile and drone strikes targeting Russian supply routes deep behind the front line and in occupied Crimea, combined with the flow of billions in European Union funding, have bolstered Ukrainian morale and eased its financial crunch.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin is facing mounting difficulties at home. Continuous Ukrainian strikes on key Russian oil refineries have triggered a nationwide gasoline supply shortage and rationing, dragging Putin's approval and trust ratings to their lowest levels since the start of the war, though analysts note this has no direct effect on Putin's stance.

Zelenskyy and Trump are expected to hold talks at the summit, but the Ukrainian president is holding off on signing a drone cooperation deal with the US, potentially seeking better terms. Although both leaders express a desire to end the war and European allies recognize Ukraine's expertise in drone warfare, Trump's volatility leaves the outcome of the talks highly uncertain.
