In mid-September 2026, the Moon acts as a celestial guide in the evening southern sky, helping observers locate key landmarks. From September 14 to 20, it passes near Antares, the reddish heart of Scorpius, and moves past the Teapot asterism in Sagittarius, where hazy light rising like steam from the spout directs the eye toward the center of the Milky Way.

On September 18, Venus reaches peak brilliance low in the western sky shortly after sunset, outshining all surrounding stars, followed on September 19 by International Observe the Moon Night, which invites the public worldwide to view our nearest neighbor. Soon after, the September 22 equinox brings near-equal day and night globally, marking the start of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere and spring in the Southern Hemisphere.

The celestial display culminates on September 26 when the Harvest Moon rises in the east alongside Saturn and Neptune, forming a wide celestial triangle. While Saturn and the bright Harvest Moon are easily seen with the naked eye, the distant planet Neptune presents an engaging challenge for observers equipped with binoculars or a telescope.
