Mitigations rely on manual releases powered around a 12‑volt/low‑voltage system, but early Model 3s lacked rear manual releases and later added them; critics say releases can be unlabeled and hard to access. Related minimalism (e.g., 2021’s $129,990 control changes) drew backlash; in 2025 Tesla restored the turn-signal stalk on the Model Y and offers $595 retrofits, and it recently launched a safety page claiming doors auto-unlock in serious collisions.
