According to the Nikkei, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) has initiated discussions with clients to raise chipmaking prices by up to 10% in 2027 to cover rising manufacturing costs. The pricing adjustments are expected to take effect next year and will apply to both advanced and mature semiconductor technologies, with TSMC intentionally postponing the hike to 2027 to allow customers adequate time to adjust.

TSMC and other chipmakers are currently grappling with surging production expenses, including significant increases in the costs of materials, equipment, and power. Driven by robust demand for artificial intelligence and the massive financial requirements of expanding global capacity, particularly its $265 billion mega-project in Arizona, the company raised its capital spending projections for 2026 this July.

Despite mounting pressures from global supply chain disruptions and soaring AI industry demand, TSMC continues to avoid sharp price fluctuations in favor of maintaining long-term partnerships with its clients. As customers like Nvidia urge faster expansion to alleviate supply bottlenecks for AI accelerators, TSMC emphasizes that its pricing remains strategic rather than opportunistic, ensuring sufficient profitability for sustained future growth.
