(關鍵數字:160,000, a year)

Ted Benna, widely known as the father of the 401(k), regrets that his retirement plan has not sufficiently benefited lower-paid workers. In response, the 84-year-old has introduced a new initiative called Radish, which aims to help frontline employees who cannot afford payroll deductions build savings habits and achieve financial security.

The Radish plan is an employer-funded incentive program designed specifically for workers earning less than $160,000 a year. When employees meet specific performance goals such as safety, on-time delivery, or attendance, employers deposit rewards directly into this tax-advantaged account, which encourages saving while helping companies boost operational performance and reduce turnover.

Although the program currently faces skepticism from some experts and has yet to be officially adopted by major corporations, Benna and his partners are actively pushing forward with pilot programs. They hope this innovative solution will eventually overcome initial doubts, just as the 401(k) did, and serve as a vital stepping stone for frontline workers to build future retirement wealth.
