Brazilian agribusiness is turning its attention to Bolivia in search of cheaper land and looser environmental regulations, leading to massive deforestation for cattle ranching and soybean cultivation. With the construction of a new cross-border road funded by agricultural capital, this transnational agricultural expansion is transforming Bolivia's natural landscape at an unprecedented pace.

This unchecked development has made Bolivia the country with the second-largest area of tropical forest loss globally, severely threatening the Chiquitano Forest, the largest tropical dry forest in the Americas. The destruction of forests not only impacts local Indigenous communities that rely on these water sources but also risks undermining the conservation achievements made in the Brazilian Amazon, pushing the entire ecosystem toward a dangerous tipping point.

Although experts warn that this development model merely shifts the pressure of deforestation to a neighboring country, the Bolivian government still hopes to rescue its struggling economy by importing Brazilian agricultural technology and capital. Without comprehensive environmental monitoring and strict enforcement, Bolivia's forests face a massive risk of becoming casualties of speculative commerce.
