Former Google software engineer Max Spero and others developed the AI detection software Pangram to identify the proliferation of AI-generated content online, as many worry that unlabeled AI texts pollute the information environment and spark controversies over dishonesty.

However, the accuracy of such detection tools is highly questioned; for instance, award-winning author Jamir Nazir was accused of using AI but vehemently denied it, emphasizing that his unique writing style stems from personal experience and reading, highlighting the risk of false accusations and witch-hunts by these tools.

Experts note that no AI detector or watermarking technology is entirely flawless currently, and society is in a transitional period of redefining the essence of writing, meaning we must find a balance between preserving human critical thinking and accepting AI assistance in the future.
